Here is our open-ended question to all of you :)
Unburnt Hydrocarbons and Methane are both produced in our daily lives.
We all know about the bad effects of Methane and Unburnt Hydrocarbons, but did you know that there are actually good effects too!
Discuss on the benefits that Methane and Unburnt Hydrocarbons have to our Environment, it can be social, economical or even anything!
Thank You for your time and have a great day ahead!

The first benefit of methane is that natural gases can be extracted from frozen methane. Japan has successfully extracted natural gas from frozen methane hydrate off its central coast, the first in the world. Since fossil fuels are running out, it is essential to find alternative sources of fuel.
ReplyDeleteAnother benefit is that methane is a "building block" for many of our everyday products. One example would be the multitude of different plastics.
Also, the advantages of methane are abundance, low cost, ease of handling and cleanliness. It is therefore widely used as home fuels, in factories and commercial establishments. It is one of the raw materials used in production of ethanol, methylene chloride, methyl chloride, ammonia and acetylene.
Hydrocarbons is a main fuel source, it has a lower cost and is more effective compared to other alternatives. Hydrocarbons not only serve as a source of fuel but they can act as lubricants and solvents a well.

Benefits of methane
ReplyDeleteNatural gas is used to run utility scale power plants. The fuel has become more popular for other uses due to its clean burning nature and abundant supplies. Compressed natural gas, a process by which natural gas is compressed into a small tank, can be used to fuel specially-designed mobile sources and would be a great low carbon source for truck fleets that can provide a centralized refilling station. Methane can be used to run small scale generators. It is produced naturally through the decomposition of waste. The process can be enhanced for agricultural waste by using a digester that adds microbes and heat. For municipal landfills, methane is harnessed via pipes that release the biogas from the landfill and transport it to facilities that will refine it and then use it to generate electricity.

The major benefit is that we call methane "Natural Gas," and as such is a MAJOR fuel worldwide! We all are aware of the tremendous value of a relatively easily delivered fuel to our homes, businesses, and factories.
ReplyDeleteMethane is also is a basic "building block" for literally dozens, or possibly hundreds, of compounds which we use to make literally thousands of products we use every day. One example is the multitude of different plastics.
In the "new" technology vehicles designed to burn Hydrogen, billions of tons of natural gas [Methane] will be thermally "steam cracked" into Hydrogen for use as a motor vehicle fuel, but I don't know yet what plans "they" have for the billions of tons of pure carbon which will be left over from the cracking process.
As for the unburnt hydrocarbons, I don't think there is any direct benefits of it. However, due to its harms to us, the government has to deal with it as further as possible, and I think the most effective way is using new technology. Nevertheless, not all country in the world has such new technology as Singapore does. Thus they have to import our technology and Singapore can earn money from it. This will benefit Singapore economically!

DeleteMethane is a highly flammable gas which contain a very small amount of contaminants. As Methane gas is rather pure and it is an example of natural gas, it can thus be used in heating and cooling our homes and businesses, cooking, electrical power generation, and when compressed , used as vehicle fuel.Methane can also be used as a feedstock in petrochemical plants to create many different compounds and products, probably the most commonly known end product is plastics. In addition, methane is also easily obtained and therefore is very cheap, making it even more suitable to be used as natural gas.
ReplyDeleteUnburnt hydrocarbons on the other hand can be used to Build materials in the form of plastic, which in turn can be used to be all sorts of things ranging from the roof of the house (plastic tiles), furniture, interior equipment, bumper car, tables, chairs,
plates, etc..

Methane is the principal component of natural gas because it is the simplest alkane. Methane is also used in various industries like fabric, plastic, anti-freeze and fertilizer industries. Methane is widely used in making fuel, carbonising steel, as natural gas. It can also be used to create electricity and feedstock in petrochemical plants. Methane is a chemical compound that is composed of four Hydrogen molecules that are linked to a single Carbon molecule.Methane is a major fuel worldwide and it is a relatively easily delivered fuel to our homes, businesses, and factories. It is also very clean burning. It is a very simple gas and only produces CO2 and water on combustion.,which is much better than gasoline or diesel.Methane is usually used as an energy source .In industries it is also used as an ingredient for making ammonia, ethanol etc.
ReplyDeleteNatural gas (principally made up of methane) is used both as a fuel and as a raw material in the manufacture of chemicals. As a residential fuel, it is burned in furnaces, water heaters, cooking stoves, and clothes dryers. As an industrial fuel, it is burned in kilns (special furnaces) used to bake bricks and ceramic tiles and to produce cement. Natural gas is also used for generating steam in water boilers and as a source of heat in glass making and food processing.
